Ram Trucks Model Lineup
Ram Trucks builds pickups and work vans only, so the lineup is short but deep. For 2026 the big news is that the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is back in the Ram 1500, while the supercharged TRX returns as a 2027 model later this year. Meanwhile, the range-extended Ram 1500 REV is due in the second half of 2026, and a mid-size Ram Dakota is planned as a 2028 model.
Light-duty pickups (3)

Full-size pickup
Ram 1500
Gas Mild hybrid Built in Michigan
The Ram 1500 is the one most people buy, and it’s still the comfort pick of the class thanks to its coil-spring rear suspension and a cabin that feels properly upscale in the top trims. For 2026 you can again get the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with eTorque (395 hp), as well as the twin-turbo Hurricane straight-six. Ram sold 204,139 light-duty pickups in the US in 2025.

Off-road performance pickup
Ram 1500 RHO
Gas 540 hp Off-road
The RHO is Ram’s desert runner, so it gets the high-output 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo six with 540 horsepower plus long-travel off-road suspension. It’s the sensible way into a fast off-road truck, although “sensible” is doing some heavy lifting here.

Supercharged off-road truck
Ram 1500 SRT TRX
Gas 777 hp Returning for 2027
The TRX is back as a 2027 model, and it now makes 777 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. As a result, it runs 0-60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. It starts at $99,995 before destination, which is still less than a Ford F-150 Raptor R.
Heavy-duty pickups (4)

Heavy-duty pickup
Ram 2500
Diesel Gas 3/4-ton
The 2500 is the three-quarter-ton truck for towing trailers and campers. You can choose the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 (410 hp) or the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel. In addition, a new payload package for 2027 lifts gas models to as much as 4,580 pounds of payload.

Heavy-duty pickup
Ram 3500
Diesel Gas Dually available
The one-ton 3500 is the heavy hauler, so it offers dual rear wheels and the high-output Cummins with 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. Like the 2500, it’s built in Saltillo, Mexico. Ram sold 169,920 heavy-duty pickups in the US in 2025.

Off-road heavy-duty pickup
Ram Power Wagon
Gas Diesel Winch
The Power Wagon is a 2500 built for rough trails, with locking differentials, a winch and solid axles front and rear. For 2027 it offers the high-output Cummins diesel for the first time, starting at $89,560, while the 6.4-liter Hemi stays available.

Commercial truck
Ram Chassis Cab
Diesel Gas 3500 to 5500
The 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab models come without a bed, because they’re built to carry dump boxes, flatbeds, tow bodies and service bodies. They’re also assembled in Saltillo alongside the heavy-duty pickups.
Vans (1)

Full-size van
Ram ProMaster
Gas Electric Front-wheel drive
The ProMaster is based on the European Fiat Ducato, so it uses front-wheel drive and a low load floor, which makes it popular with delivery fleets and camper-van builders. Ram also offers an electric version, the ProMaster EV. ProMaster sales were 57,591 in the US in 2025.
Coming soon (1)

Range-extended pickup
Ram 1500 REV
Electric Gas generator 2027 model
The REV started life in 2023 as a plan for an all-electric Ram 1500, but Ram canceled the pure EV instead. Now the REV name goes on the range-extended truck (first called the Ramcharger): a 92-kWh battery gives about 145 miles of electric range, and a 3.6-liter V6 then acts as a generator for up to 690 miles in total. Production is set for the second half of 2026 in Sterling Heights.
Outside North America (1)

Compact pickup
Ram Rampage
Gas Unibody Latin America
The Rampage is a smaller unibody pickup built in Goiana, Brazil, since 2023, and it’s sold in Latin American markets such as Brazil and Mexico. In addition, Ram sells the 700, 1000 and 1200 pickups in Latin America, although none of these is offered in the US.
What Is Ram Trucks?
Ram Trucks is the American pickup and commercial-van brand of Stellantis, and it’s based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. For most of its life, though, Ram was a model rather than a brand: Dodge started calling its D-series pickups “Ram” for the 1981 model year, and it borrowed the ram hood ornament that had first appeared on Dodge trucks in 1933.
Ram trucks turned into a real force in 1994, when the second-generation Dodge Ram arrived with its big-rig grille. Sales jumped from 95,542 in 1993 to 232,092 in 1994, so that design set the look Ram still uses. Then, after Chrysler’s 2009 bankruptcy and Fiat’s arrival, Dodge and Ram were split in 2010. As a result, Dodge kept the cars, while Ram Trucks took the pickups and vans.
Today Ram Trucks builds the Ram 1500 in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and the heavy-duty trucks and ProMaster van in Saltillo, Mexico. It also sells smaller pickups in Latin America, especially the Brazilian-built Rampage. Our honest take: if you want the most comfortable full-size truck, or a diesel that’ll tow almost anything, Ram belongs near the top of your shopping list.
Ram Trucks History
Ram Trucks grew from a Dodge badge into a truck-only brand, so its story starts long before 2010.
- 1933 A ram hood ornament first appears on Dodge trucks, long before Ram was a name.
- 1946 Dodge launches the civilian Power Wagon, the first civilian production 4×4 truck.
- 1980 In October, the Dodge D-series pickups are renamed Ram for the 1981 model year.
- 1989 Chrysler and Cummins introduce the turbo-diesel Ram, and sales finally start to climb again.
- 1994 The second-generation Ram arrives with its big-rig look, and sales more than double.
- 2004 The V10-powered Ram SRT-10 sets a record of 154.587 mph, while Bobby Hamilton wins the Truck Series title in a Dodge.
- 2005 The Power Wagon name returns on the Ram 2500, and Ted Musgrave wins another Truck Series title for Dodge.
- 2009 The new Ram 1500 swaps rear leaf springs for coil springs; meanwhile, Chrysler goes through bankruptcy and Fiat takes a stake.
- 2010 Ram becomes its own brand, separate from Dodge, so the trucks lose the Dodge badge.
- 2013 The ProMaster van arrives, and the Ram 1500 wins MotorTrend Truck of the Year for 2013 and then again for 2014.
- 2019 The fifth-generation Ram 1500 is named North American Truck of the Year.
- 2021 Stellantis is formed, and the 702-hp Ram 1500 TRX wins MotorTrend Truck of the Year.
- 2023 The Rampage compact pickup goes on sale in Brazil.
- 2025 Ram announces that the Hemi V8 returns for the 2026 Ram 1500.
- 2026 Ram returns to NASCAR with Kaulig Racing, Matt VanDyke becomes CEO, and the TRX comes back with 777 hp.
Iconic Ram Models
These six trucks built the reputation of Ram Trucks, from a postwar 4×4 to a V10 street truck.

1946–1968 (US)
Dodge Power Wagon
First civilian 4×4 truck
The Power Wagon took Dodge’s World War II military truck and sold it to farmers and ranchers. Consequently, it became the first civilian production 4×4 truck, and its name lives on in today’s Ram Power Wagon.

1981–1993
Dodge Ram (first generation)
First to wear the Ram name
This is where the Ram name started. The trucks themselves weren’t new, although the ram hood ornament and the new name gave Dodge pickups an identity they’d been missing.

1989
Dodge Ram with Cummins diesel
Turbo-diesel Straight-six
When Dodge dropped a 5.9-liter Cummins turbo-diesel into the Ram, it gave buyers a truck that could tow hard and run for ages. As a result, Cummins power became Ram’s calling card for heavy-duty buyers.

1994–2002
Dodge Ram (second generation)
Big-rig styling Truck of the Year
The raised hood and huge grille looked like nothing else on the road in 1994. It also won MotorTrend Truck of the Year, and sales more than doubled in its first year.

2004–2006
Dodge Ram SRT-10
Viper V10 500 hp
Dodge put the 8.3-liter, 500-hp V10 from the Viper into a Ram. In July 2004, NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan then drove one to 154.587 mph, a record for a production pickup.

2009–2018
Dodge Ram 1500 (fourth generation)
Coil-spring rear RamBox
The 2009 Ram 1500 replaced the usual rear leaf springs with coil springs, so it rode more like an SUV than a work truck. That comfort-first idea is still why so many owners pick a Ram today.
Who Owns Ram Trucks?
Ram Trucks is a brand of Stellantis, the car group formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles merged with France’s PSA Group.
