What Are Chrysler cars?
In the beginning, Walter P. Chrysler took over the Maxwell Motor Company in the early 1920s. First, the Chrysler Six appeared in January 1924, and then the Chrysler Corporation was founded in June 1925. In 1928 Chrysler bought Dodge and created Plymouth and DeSoto, so it became one of Detroit’s Big Three.
Later, Chrysler nearly went bankrupt, and in 1980 Lee Iacocca secured $1.5 billion in US loan guarantees. Eventually, the company recovered with the minivan, launched in late 1983. After that, Chrysler merged with Daimler in 1998, passed to Cerberus in 2007 and went through bankruptcy in 2009 before Fiat took control.
Today Chrysler cars are part of Stellantis, which formed in 2021. Since the 300 sedan ended in 2023, the brand has sold only minivans. However, Stellantis plans to grow Chrysler with three new crossovers by 2030.
